Ed:  The first draft I heard of "Ukulele Ragtime Blues" was Bob Colonna singing it, unaccompanied, on a cassette - I'm pretty sure the cassette came from Doug's answering machine too. There it was, and I could hear practically the whole chord structure, just from his melody. Later, when we were at a piano, he fleshed it out by telling me it should be something like "Um-papa um-papa dee deet dee..." and further instructions like that. What the hell was I doing all those years learning how to read music? Who needs manuscript paper and ink when Bob's around? Pure genious.

Bob is an entertainer to the last cell in his body. I have been an admirer of his since the first time we worked together on a play at the Rhode Island Shakespeare Theater in 1977. We continued that collaboration on and off into the '90s when the theater closed its doors, and it was always fun, as well as a learning experience.

I was thrilled to work with Bob and Doug on that song, and look forward to the next one. I don't know what else it will be, but I guarantee you it will be funny.

Look for Bob on stage, on line, on the air, or on the book shelves. This guy gets around.
